Home based Travel Agents that are not using Air Consolidators are missing the proverbial plane, or boat. There are many reasons for using a consolidator. Just because there is no “net fare” available, does not mean that there is not money to be made or saved on the flight.
Jaxfax published the free 2009 Consolidator Guide and Directory in the March addition of the print magazine. If you did not get the hard copy, you can download it here. You can download the guide in a PDF format from the right hand column on the main page.
I had an agent recently that called me and was pretty frustrated concerning the airfares he was searching to Brazil. He challenged me to find a better airfare than he was finding online. I called Brazilian Travel Services right out of the guide I am recommending and although I got the same flight my agent found online, the end result was very different. The consolidator was paying 15% commission on the published fare resulting in a savings of close to $300 on his flight for the two tickets.
We will address the topic of using Consolidators in future posts, but for now go to the highlighted link above and get this free guide. Get signed up for Jaxfax.com if you have not done so.
