Don’t laugh as Voluntourism is a booming trend and travel agents should pay attention. You may not think most people would consider a working vacation, but the number of bookings will tell you differently. Some companies, such as Sweet Mango Tours that was featured this week in Travel Weekly focuses solely on service -oriented travel.
So what is “voluntourism”? Your inspired traveler wants to do something other than just see a destination and sit on the beach. I honestly, had never considered paying to do community service, as I didn’t like it when I was obligated to do it for free. As I research more of the opportunities in this niche, I may change my mind and give it a try after I sit on a few more beaches. Fam trips are available!
I searched www.lonelyplanet.com, and they list:
Azafady www.madagascar.co.uk
www.peruforless.com/agents.php
www.exquisitesafaris.com/index.php/journal/more/travel_agents_philanthropic_travel/
I also came across the www.matadorchange.com blog. This blog lists 364 sources for voluntourism around the globe.
My point being, get educated on the resources available and find a couple that interest you. Never know what question is coming next, but if you have the right answer, it can and will result in a booking.

The biggest selection of “voluntourism” holidays in the world in one place are on our sites http://www.voluntourism.co.uk and http://www.responsibletourism.co.uk.
We use “responsible tourism” as well because the two types of holiday often support the same ideals.
